Apeira – NEW talent alert

Apeira

This week we are stepping out of Dubai to Al Ain.
Here we have discovered progressive death metal band Apeira, which was born in June 2009 when three like-minded souls found each other and began to jam.
They originally started with just two members, Al Atef on keyboards and BaM Farra on guitars. The pair slugged away, covering their favourite symphonic songs, improvising and just having a good time, before they got more serious, improved their skills and started doing pretty ok Nightwish covers.
Originally, these two guys were in the school band, honing their skills and being told what to do. Then, in 2009 BaM and Ali took part in a music competition at Al Ain Mall, they played Nightwish songs and took top prize. This gave the guys an idea.
“We knew that we can improve hell of a lot and we started getting more serious about making a whole band. We decided to play something more like heavy metal and I also decided to play bass for the band,” says Ali.
The week after the Al Ain competition saw some progressive changes in the band; the two guys hunted down a drummer and asked him to join the band and they got serious about their music.
The drummer they picked was Sherry Ahmed and he agreed to be part of this start-up,  then there were three.
The band have now played a few gigs here and there and have composed and written some of their own material.
They have recorded just one track so far, which is an instrumental but will be releasing their two new tracks, Mayhem Unleashed and Gates To Apeiron, at midnight UAE time tonight (August 10), so look out for them.
This will be the first time we hear their sound with vocals and will add a review soon.

Random fact:
The band name, Apeira came from the word Apeiron, which means boundless or infinite in Greek and Al says Apeira means Land of Infinity to them (I bet they did not know that it is also a species of moth!).
We here at Metality UAE do like to educate our fans!

The Jugement:
This young band is just setting their toes on the first step to UAE fame and need all the fan support they can get.
We like their sound on the instrumental track and they certainly have talent.
We are impressed by the drums on the instrumental version of Gates to Apeiron which can be heard on http://www.facebook.com/pages/Apeira/294412669161?ref=ts .
We have not heard their music with vocals, so will wait to hear the tracks they are posting tonight before we give our full opinion.

Apeira Members

So who are the band members?
BaM Farra – Lead Guitarist/ Lead Vocalist
D.O.B – 29/December/1990
Hometown – Damascus – Syria
BaM was born and raised in Al Ain and has been into rock n’ roll since he was a kid. He has been playing the guitar since the age of 15 and always brings fresh ideas to the table. BaM plays all types of metal and is learning some blues for lead guitars. He hopes to learn to play the violin.

Al Atef – Bassist/ Keyboardist/ Backup Vocalist
D.O.B 14 February 1990
Hometown – Tehran – Iran
Al also grew up in Al Ain, but he was more into RnB and Hip Hop unlike band member and best friend BaM.
BaM eventually brainwashed by him into metal. He wanted to learn the guitar but an anonymous tipster told him to learn the keyboards first, since it was easier, and then move on to the guitar. Al decided to stay with the keyboards and has been playing classical, Rock, Gothic and Symphonic Metal ever since. He has been a musician from the age of 10 and also plays the guitar but not perfectly yet. Once they decided to form the band Al decided he would pick up bass.

Sherry Ahmed – Drummer
D.O.B 17/October/1991
Hometown – Lahore – Pakistan
Sherry, the youngest member of the band was born and raised in Al Ain as well.
His ambition was to learn guitar and he started off learning a bit at school.
One day a set of drums were delivered to the school and Sherry got interested when he heard his teacher playing a drum solo… he picked them up and has been practicing drums ever since the age of 15.

Please feel free to leave any feedback  or comments!

“In this one BaM and myself were on stage doing the Al Ain Mall Music Competition’s final act where they announced us the winners. This is before Sherry joined us. We covered Amaranth and Wish I Had An Angel from Nightwish,” says Al.

“This one was part of our first official gig as Apeira, we had a friend of ours, Osama Malik on rhythm guitars however he left the band since he left the country. In this short video we were actually just improvising on stage starting with drums, a bass line, rhythm and finally lead,” says Ali.
