The general overview of Sound of Guns EP by the Australian band Diamond Eye:May 30 2012
Diamond Eye – EP review – By Rodi Hennawi (Metal Asylum Events organiser)
The general overview of Sound of Guns EP by the Australian band Diamond Eye: I love this EP, it is very old-school and it sounds like the band has been influenced by classic rock and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. If you gave me this CD and did not tell me who the band was, I might think it was a new album from Kiss.
The singer is very Paul Stanley, with more melody in his vocals, the only thing he is missing is the sharp high notes.
If you take out the instruments altogether and just leave the main vocals and backing vocals, they really make the songs come alive.
The guitar solos also stand out, adding atmosphere and emotion to the melody – there is only one solo in each song, but here there are mini solos within each song, each executed to perfection.
The rest of the instruments; the guitar, bass and drum feature basic riffs and beats that any good old school rock or metal band plays, it could be Whitesnake, Kiss or Iron Maiden – but they are damn good.
My favourite two songs are definitely Waiting for Me and Sounds of the Guns. I can’t wait to hear the full album that Diamond Eye are recording in LA this year.
The intro to Waiting for Me is fantastic, as soon as I listened to it I knew what the rest of the EP would sound like and it excited me.
This is the kind of EP that really makes you want to listen to the entire EP and then hunt down more of the band’s tunes on YouTube.
I think the five songs sound very similar, which is not a bad thing, especially for those that are into old school rock and metal. This is their style and if they try to be more melodic or progressive, they may lose what they are good at.
I have never seen them live, but i can imagine them playing very energetic and dynamic live shows, the guitars running around the stage, switching places with lots pyrotechnics.
I am definitely looking forward to bringing them to Dubai next year and introducing them to the music scene here. I think Diamond Eye should make it big soon, otherwise it would be a sad loss to fans of old school music.
