Metality UAE Radio did a live on-air EP review for Voice of the Soul on August 18th, here is a copy of what Metality UAE Radio DJ and presenter Mark McGuire thought of the EP, Into Oblivion:
So for the past week I have been rocking Voice Of The Souls new EP “Into Oblivion”. This band originated inKuwaitbut now its members are spread out all over the world.
It’s a really pleasing thing to come across a band like this because I think anyone, like myself, who has been a musician in the UAE or anywhere else in the Middle East can appreciate how difficult it is to stick together and create something that’s going to be around forever; for current fans to listen to, for current musicians to get inspiration from and, most importantly for future fans and musicians in this part of the world to be able to look back on and see, and hear what metal music meant to another band at another point in time.
The EP is chock-a-block with grizzly death metal slurs and growls, tripwire double bass blast beats and awesome twin guitar riffs… it’s a death metal EP with a little bit more substance than a lot of the competition.
There is one track in particular that caught my attention a little bit more than the others. Wither is melodic and symphonic, but not in a death metal sense… its melodic and symphonic, in a melodic and symphonic sense, and that frankly, is a breath of fresh air…. It’s a track that makes you slump back and think… about anything at all… just for a moment and then your straight back into the grind… just like that…
I like to take into consideration the members of a band when I listen to the music, for me it gives a much more holistic image of exactly what your listening to, what this music is intended to make you think and feel.
Guitarist Kareem Chehayeb is a well rounded musician who knows that stardom is not just around the corner and frankly doesn’t seem to care, he’s in it for the music and that can be a rare quality in an industry dominated by the commercial. As far as Kareem is concerned Roadrunner records can shove it…
Drummer Rana Rassouli on the other hand has always come across to me as an individual who knows what she wants, doesn’t care too much what you think, and for the most part just oozes confidence. If Rana isn’t sure if she can do something you’d probably have to strap her to a chair and torture her into admitting defeat…
Some musicians were made for each other and I think Voice of the Soul has mighty fine blend of the adventurous and the realistic and it shows in their music…
To sum up Into Oblivion is a solid death metal record, well recorded, insightful and well worth getting your hands on …
